What if the Sanitation crisis was really in the backyard of key world leaders? Would they do more if this is what they had to face every day — if they had to trudge though it, smell it, suffer the health impacts, watch their children die from it ??
At today’s first ever High Level Meeting on Water and Sanitation in Washington DC — where Freshwater Action Members from Africa and South Asia are representing civil society — I hope that government leaders do ‘talk shit’ and then they do something about it — committing resources and political will to a framework for ACTION on behalf of the more than 2.5 billion people around the world who face the daily reality above.
The global sanitation crisis is a scandal. Let’s hope today is a turning point.
